A billion mobile phones were shipped in 2007 alone, making mobile connectivity the rule, rather than the exception, throughout the world. And where mobile voice communications was recently miraculous enough, tomorrow’s consumer will take for granted mobile access to the internet, to messaging, images, video, global positioning and personalization.
At Sharp Labs, our mobile communications initiatives go right to the heart of this revolution. We’re developing the software and intellectual property for GSM, UMTS, CDMA and Mobile WiMAX cellular handsets in support of Sharp's communication product development initiatives. We work closely with U.S. and European wireless operators to support product planning, to ensure technical compliance, and to enable the networks that will make future capabilities possible.

Flat Panel of Experts
The recent surge in LCD and flat panel capability and their affordability is rapidly making the cathode ray tube television a thing of the past. More than 73 million flat panel TVs were shipped in 2007 as technological barriers to size, image quality and affordability have continued to tumble.
Sharp, the pioneer of LCD technology, invests aggressively in maintaining flat panel TV leadership, and Sharp Labs is active here on many fronts – including delivering the architectures to serve U.S. consumer and business markets like hospitality and retail. We’re creating the Internet connection protocols that will enable the next big transformations in TV content, capability, social interaction and customer support.

Sharp Labs is also at the forefront of advances in connected healthcare, particularly in developing consumer-friendly systems for the continuous monitoring and application of personal health and wellness information.
