Digital Imaging Systems
Like “icebox” and “horseless carriage,” the name “photocopier” hangs around long after it is at all adequate to describe the multifunctional, multi-media, environmentally desirable devices that today’s imaging systems have become. At Sharp Labs, we spearhead the development of new functions, color capabilities and device management features that transform how information and documents are gathered, sorted, given shape and shared in the office and home. One of our very first products, personal document management software called SharpDesk, was instrumental in building Sharp’s standing as a leader in multipurpose document imaging systems.
Call it digital imaging. Call it document workflow. We call it an opportunity to delight consumers and make businesses more efficient. We file more than 60 patents each year on ideas that do just that. That’s the result of our working as a team to research customers, envision new technologies, and then to create the algorithms, hardware and software that turn blue-sky concepts into today’s reality.

Color Printing and Scanning
Delivering stunning color prints at 50 pages per minute requires a rich set of driver and embedded firmware, advanced color management systems and specialized hardware. We continue to drive the leading edge of color printing as we deliver new technology to each new family of award-winning Sharp Multifunction Printers (MFPs).
Building on our creation of Sharp’s first network scanning technology in 2000, we continue to enhance this capability with extended color features, advanced image processing, and compression technology to make Sharp MFPs the most powerful in the industry.

Sharp Open System Architecture
Imagine being able to scan an invoice on an imaging device and at the same time transfer that invoice into an accounting software package to process payment without user intervention at the desktop. This kind of an enterprise application is eminently practical today, thanks to Sharp Labs' development of the Sharp Open Systems Architecture and OSA Software Development Kit.
OSA is an application programming interface that has given businesses immediate access through their Sharp Multifunction Printers to a range of applications such as document management, sophisticated reporting functions and other programs created internally or by third-party developers.

Our India Subsidiary
The breadth of innovation we saw looming in new architectures, software and drivers for digital imaging prompted our launch some years ago of Sharp Software Development India, headquartered in Bangalore. Today, Sharp Software Development India is instrumental to our round-the-clock, rapid software development for imaging products and other Sharp Labs initiatives.
